MY MINIATURE POMERANIAN | ONE YEAR WITH POM

I hope you all appreciate the cuteness of these photos! I realised the other day that I've never really spoken about my dog, Pom, on my blog. Seeing as it's just been the one year anniversary of having her I thought I'd fill you all in a little bit about her!
From watching countless amounts of Boo Dog videos online to searching the '#Pomstagram" tag on Instagram, I'd been wanting a pomeranian for years. My mum brought her home as a complete surprise.  Let's just say, if she'd filmed my reaction it probably would've gone viral. It was like surprising a 7 year old that she's going to Disneyland. Except I probably cried and squealed more...
I think people have this idea that small dogs aren't a lot of hassle and are easy to own. Just because they're tiny does not make them effort free! When we first got Pom she was so tiny that I was constantly scared of losing her and she had a tendency to shoot off at any given opportunity. Pomeranians are also an extremely stubborn breed and it was tough training her. It took months for her to learn her own name and she used to run off at any given opportunity. Toilet training took a long time and it was difficult to get her to eat. When I let her out at night, I was terrified she'd shoot off underneath a bush.  We had to turn the garden into a makeshift prison with planks of wood all around to cover any potential escape routes. Even now, if you're not watching her outside, she might shoot off down a road.
As for naming her, I settled on the most unoriginal thing ever, but trust me, Pom suits her. She's always had such a strong personality so cutesy toy dog names like 'Honey' or 'Boo Boo' just didn't make the cut. Pom just stuck and most of my family still refer to her as 'The Pom' like she's still waiting for a name.  As she's got older, she's become a lot easier to look after, but it's important to be realistic if you buy a tiny dog like Pom. I read somewhere that pomeranians tend to take on the characteristics of their owners and a lot of my friends joke that she's literally me in dog form so I guess there's some truth in that. She needs a lot of sleep, and sighs if I get up during the night, and she definitely has a little princess vibe.
Pomeranians are known for their extroverted personalities and Pom is no different. She was socialised well and will happily be picked up and cuddled by anyone. She's super loving and playful, not snappy or yappy or any of the common misconceptions about small dogs. In the beginning she had a bit of a problem with playful (painless) biting, but again, this goes away as they get older. They're also really energetic dogs and Pom loves to be taken for walks. But she doesn't *need* to be walked daily like larger dogs, so for this reason they're perfect for busy people. I thought about taking her to Uni with me this year but it's so cruel for her to not have a garden. She'll roam around outside for hours and you can take her for long walks.
Finally, the last main thing about owning a miniature pomeranian is how careful you have to be. Whenever I take her anywhere, she wears a little harness because you have to be extremely careful not to hurt her. If you put a lead on a pomeranian it would snap her neck, so you have to be super gentle with them. It's also easy for them to pop joints and break bones due to their size, so that's another thing to bare in mind if you buy a small dog. She's a great little guard dog but also has small dog syndrome where she'll try to take on larger dogs and even cows. For this reason on a walk I tend to simply pick her up around other dogs else she can get pretty wound up.

So that's Pom in a nut shell! If you have any questions about her don't be afraid to ask and I'll answer as well as I can!

WHAT I WORE | THE TRUTH ON OUTFIT REPEATING

Blazer | Top | Skirt | Handbag | Necklace | Sandals (all links are similar to products worn)

A month or so I found myself asking my Twitter followers, "Do you guys mind when bloggers repeat outfits?" to which I quickly deleted said tweet, slammed down my macbook and had an internal pep-talk with myself. Let's be real: we all know that blogging is a little bit contrived. But we turned to personal style blogs from magazines for a reason. That reason is because the girl in her bedroom on her laptop is a hell of a lot more interesting. Don't get me wrong; my Elle and Vogue stash is big enough to stack up a Pinterestable bed side table. And I love glossy magazines, in all their unattainable, unrealisable glory. But I read personal style blogs because I love personal style. I'm not on enough money or juggling enough PR samples to post 2 completely different outfits a week. I wear pieces until they're fraying, the soles have snapped or until it simply falls apart. I wear that necklace in pretty much every outfit post I do because I've worn it everyday since I got it for my birthday a year ago. If anything, knowing there is a photo op during the day does motivate me to put something together. But I'm reminding myself, and other bloggers, to ignore the pressure.  If you find seeing the same items popping up too repetitive, you're the only one missing out. Because I challenge your wardrobe and all of its endless possibilities. Being able to mix and match different pieces and make them feel like a new outfit is personal style. It also saves you a hell of a lot of money. So start using your imagination. I'm an outfit repeater, guilty. as. charged.

What items in your wardrobe are you wearing to death? Are you guilty of being an outfit repeater?

MEETING FEARNE COTTON AT THE VERY X FEARNE EVENT

On Wednesday I headed to London to kick off a few days filled with press days and events. I've done some pretty cool things through my blog, but an exclusive event with Fearne Cotton has to be one of the best. Fearne showcased her new AW14 collection the media in the infamous celebrity hangout, The Groucho Club in Soho. I met the lovely Jess from Velvet Daisy and Charlie Rose from Seasons Come And Go and we sipped on passion fruit martinis and mojitos whilst taking a look at the new pieces.
The room quickly filled up with bloggers and journalists who were all eager to get a look at the new range. Fearne is without a doubt a style icon - she takes her signature style and clear creativity to create effortlessly stylish pieces. I think you can put her success down to the fact that she speaks to your everyday woman with her collections.
Her pieces are easy to wear, glamorous and subtly carry off her timeless rock Although the range isn't so much my personal style, I couldn't help but imagine so many girls and women I know in the pieces knowing that they'd love them. Her most eye-catching piece had to be the bright yellow dress which looked incredible on Fearne. There was drop-hem shift dresses, co-ords, a jacket and trouser kimono sets and plenty of power cocktail dresses to choose from.
After plenty of cocktails and occupying the photobooth, we headed back to the tube feeling a little star struck. Overall it was a great event, thank you so much to Very for inviting me!

What do you think of Fearne's collection? Are you a fan of her style?

THE SUNDAY CATCH UP | INTRODUCING MY BOYFRIEND'S BLOG

Soo, I have some exciting news! I'm not normally this much of a sap, but here we are, an entire post dedicated to my boyfriend and his new lifestyle blog. If you read the article on blogger boyfriends in Company this month, then I'm sure I'm not the only one to say that it's kinda my relationship summed up. From taking outfit photos to designing the graphics for my blog - Ryan normally ends up stuck behind a camera, stood in the middle of roads, and fixing most of my HTML balls-ups.
After coming to stay with me in London where we took plenty of opportunities to get some amazing photography and soak up everything the city had to offer, he was inspired to set up something of his own. He's always been a really creative person so it just seems natural for him to make his own little space on the internet. So meet Mr Bona Drag (it means "well dressed" if you don't get the Morrissey allusion) where he'll be posting personal style and whatever else takes his fancy.
I think there is plenty of room for male bloggers but I know very little about the male blogging community - so if you have any pointers about where he can start, please leave them in a comment!
As for now, I'd love it if you could show his blog some love, as we all know how daunting it is when you first hit "publish". Head over to his blog and follow it here!
Will we be one of those blogger couples? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty excited to see what he comes up with!

Lydia Rose,

BUILDING UP A MAC PALETTE #3 | PATINA, AMBER LIGHTS, MULCH

I told you in this post that it was going to be a long, drawn out process. An update on my quest for the perfect MAC palette is long overdue. I actually purchased these shades a few months back where I added the three colours sat on the magazine: Mulch, Amberlights and PatinaIn the rest of my palette (working down the rows) is Gleam, All That Glitters, Embark and Woodwinked.

So, here's the low down on my three newest shades:
Mulch (Velvet) - Think Woodwinked's older, goth sister. A shimmery, dark chocolate brown, it's been my go-to for nights out.
Amber Lights (Frost) - Amber Lights is pretty much how it looks in the pan. Way more sophisticated than Half Baked in your Naked Palette, it makes gold eyes something magical but wearable. It's easy to work but my favourite way to wear is in the outer corners under a matte shadow.
Patina (Frost) - A one sweep wonder that is easily overlooked as not one of MAC's most eye grabbing eyeshadows. The colour is hard to describe, taupe, gold, silver?! It varies on skin tone. On my super pale skin it's a light gold-brown with a delicate shimmer running through it. An easy, natural shade to perk up your eyes when you don't have time to spend on your make-up.

After watching various Youtube videos and lurking the palette of all of my favourite beauty bloggers, I've come up with my idea of the perfect palette. Now that I'm raring to go with my birthday Selfridges gift card since turning 20, I think I'm only one more visit to The Bullring in Birmingham from a full palette. *Squeals*. So what's left? On the top of my list is a light matte brown (I'm thinking Espresso), a matte white, a wearable pink, some more golds, a peachy brown and a one or two daring shades.

What do you think of my latest additions? What are your favourite MAC shades and are there any you'd recommend?
Lydia Rose,

WHAT I WORE | KIMONOS IN SHOREDITCH

Duster Jacket/ Kimono (similar) Band of Gypsies (bought via TK MAXX) | Top - Brandy Melville | Skirt - Zara (similar)| Shoes - Chicwish*

These photos were taken a few weeks ago on a Sunday spent roaming vintage stalls in Shoreditch. I bargained with my boyfriend to trawl through clothes with me if I watched the World Cup final with him in the evening. Football is my least favourite thing and shopping with me is probably his least favourite thing so I guess we struck a fair deal! Shoreditch is definitely one of my favourite places in the city. I found this kimono in TK Maxx on a day where it was seriously boho heaven. There were so many amazing jumpsuits, duster jackets and kimonos that I wanted to buy the place out. I settled for a few and this was one of them. I love how colourful it is. I'm already missing London, so I'm excited to be heading back for a few press days and exciting events which I'll be blogging about. Eeee!

What do you think of this outfit?

SUNDAY CATCH UP | TURNING 20, MEXICAN FOOD & LEARNING TO LIKE YOURSELF

This week has been pretty up and down. Good points? My summer starts now, meaning I have all the time in the world to fill with writing and blogging. My birthday was lovely, I hung out with with friends, had the dreamiest afternoon in The Lakes and gorged on Mexican food. These photos were taken in my favourite restaurant where I live, Amigos. The best Mexican ever. But negatives? Well...

I had the worst hair disaster I've had in, like, years. Basically, a chemical reacted in a product I'd left in my hair (I never wash it before going to the hairdressers) which reacted with the dye and so a pretty hefty chunk of my hair snapped off. I don't want to talk too much about it as I don't want to scare anyone by giving out false information. So I'm going to wait to hear back with a bit more scientific back up, and then believe me, I will warn you about the product you need to wash the hell out of your hair the night before you get it dyed.
As you can imagine, it's affected my happy, motivated vibe this week. But it's also made me think a lot about self-image and how much of an impact it has in my life. I totally understand the power of improving things about your appearance as a means to boosting your self confidence. I've had my teeth straightened, my hair bleached, I've lost weight. All of these things have helped to make me at peace with the girl in the mirror. But where do you draw the line, if your appearance is the only thing making you feel good? When does it become an obsession?
My head isn't just filled up with the next hair product I'm going to buy or what outfit I'm going to feature on my blog. I have a hell of a lot more going on. If this had happened 2 years ago, I think I would've just had a melt down.  I've been scared of turning 20, but it's forced me to reflect on my teen years and think about how much I've grown as a person. A flaw in my appearance doesn't throw my universe off centre anymore - and it's a relief to say that. I have a tuft of hair in an obvious place that is going to take years to grow out. Whenever I wake up in a bad mood, that little tuft is going to stick up and just make that feeling worse. But let's be honest, if visible flaws are the only thing contributing to your bad day then you need a reality check.
I had a crying fit and got over it. Sometimes I think losing your comfort blanket is the best thing because it forces you to get a thicker skin. That skin will get you through life. Not relying on cosmetic things like your hair. I've realised that I need to start being kinder to myself, stop obsessing and get a grip. And hey, at least the growing out period will mainly be in the winter and I have a pretty awesome collection of hats.
What I'm saying is, if you've ever had a knock to your visual appearance; be it a shit haircut, dye job, whatever, embrace the opportunity to learn to how to like yourself. I'm taking baby steps, but I think I'm on my way.

How was your week? Have you ever had a hair disaster?
Lydia Rose,
xoxo
